What a whirlwind! This weekend I participated In Rising Sun Performance Company's 24 hour Theatre Mash Up Children are Terrifying event. We met on Friday night to get into teams and assign prompts. The prompts were based on social media memes and stories of terrifying things children have said and done to their parents and babysitters, so we had some rather disturbing and fascinating material to work with.
I was assigned my team, a lovely group of people. Our playwright was Megan Lohne, Director Shay Gines, Actors myself, Dante Jayce, Elizabeth Burke & Robert Pearlman. We all introduced ourselves, mingled, and let Megan get a feel for who we are. We then disbanded around 8pm, as Megan went off to write all night! I, as usual, wasn't sleeping, and at 2:30 in the morning was delighted to find a brand new amazing ten minute play! So, I read and went to bed with dreams of swamp people dancing in my head...
In the morning, awoke to a pleasant barrage of emails regarding wardrobe, locations, etc. I put myself together, made a big ole breakfast, and set out for the rehearsal and performance process. We met up, rehearsed from 11-3, then arrived at Theatrelab for cue to cue, tech, and finally the performance at 8pm. We were up first, and performed our awesome piece.
Our piece was about a dysfunctional southern family living in the swamp. It opens on the parents crouched behind a tree, holding a gun, prepared to teach their daughter (me!) a lesson about dating "them tharr swamp boys". I enter, with my boyfriend, kissing and giggling then we intersect with the parents and an enormous family argument ensues. I will not give too much away, but it had a surprise ending that shocked us all.
I had an amazing time, meeting new people and working for this great company. They always have something going on, so be sure to check them out!
Otherwise, ELIZABETHS is fast approaching, make sure to reserve your spot ASAP! I am really looking forward to presenting this piece to everyone.
Wednesday I start a new endeavor, working as a performance facilitator at the Marina Abramovic Generator show at Sean Kelly gallery. I had training last week, and it really opened me up and got me excited for what this piece will be. I hope to see some familiar faces there - it will definitely be an exciting experience!
